a month of moderation.

bachelor mondays.

it's no secret that i love kicking back with a glass (or two) of wine after work. every monday, my friend krystal and i share a bottle while we watch the bachelor. on the weekend, i sip while i cook. however (and maybe this is just me getting older? sigh), lately i've noticed that the morning after i have a glass or two with dinner, i feel sluggish and lethargic. i think the holidays make everyone overindulge a little bit, and that overindulging seems to have followed me into 2014. i've made a pact to go for the next 30 days without bringing a bottle home to enjoy with dinner that week, without swinging by trader joe's or whole foods or world market to try a new springy white.

i'm 2 days sans vino and already i'm feeling like i have much more energy! my goal with this 30 days is to reevaluate what i'm putting into my body as i am a big believer in "you are what you eat"/"put crap in, get crap out". no one ever feels like running a marathon after a rich meal with a cocktail or two on the side. while i am all for indulging, i think it should be done so in moderation. my rich food and drink choices have caught up with me recently, so this month will be all about moderation and reevaluating habits... and maybe shedding a few pounds in the process!

have you ever gone a month without alcohol, sugar, carbs, gluten, meat, or some other favorite indulgence? how did it work out for you? what were your results?

xx.

  1. Get it gurl! Alcohol definitely impacts me differently as I'm getting older. Last summer I went on a two week cleanse of no: processed foods, red meat, dairy, gluten, sugar, alcohol or caffeine. It was tricky but satisfying. The results were not as measurable as I had hoped but I'd like to try it again and see. The hardest part was actually the no alcohol due to several work events going on at the same time!

    1. I am definitely finding it challenging and have broken it once or twice to have a glass... but it really is good because i'm really decreasing my consumption of rich food and drink, not just wine! i'm learning what is good to save for special occasions or weekends aka moderation. it's making me feel really energized and strengthening good habits!

    2. P.S. We should team up our blogs and maybe try another cleanse!

  2. I had to stop myself drinking during the week. I absolutely love having white wine with my meals, and when I was in Italy for example I had it with lunch and dinner. But now it just doesn't make much sense drinking it every day, so I keep it for special occasions. Good luck with the 30 days!

    1. I think I have to stop too. It should be something I save for weekends/special occasions. When I was in Spain, we had sangria and/or wine with dinner (and sometimes lunch) whenever we went out, which was very frequent. And I was there for a whole semester so I became quite the wino! I walked it all off though, because I walked everywhere. Now that I've graduated from college and have been working, I've found it easy to adopt that habit again. I have to realize that it was OK in Spain, because it was such a special semester and I was also a student! It doesn't make sense while I'm living my everyday life. Maybe when I'm on vacation but not everyday after work.

Thank you for the luck! I'll let you know how it goes!
